-OK. Where to go? What to eat? How far…

-Oh my god, stop, why not check the app and order something online?

-Good idea!

That’s a common talk about two guys confusing about the next meal.

In the time of fast-paced life, ready-meal is getting more and more fashionable recently, especially among the young. More and more people don’t have enough time or desire to prepare the dishes. They prefer to get some prepared food, pop them in the microwave, and ding, it’s all done. Prepared meals not only save our time in food preparation but also help us to reach the goal of fitness.

The past 2020 also witnessed the popularity of ready-meal. No bars, no gathering, no indoor dining, the pandemic has left many restaurants at risk of closing down. Still, some food services enjoyed booming business through take-way food. Moreover, an increasing number of supermarkets offer various ready-meal on shelves.

So faced with numerous ready-food, which shall we pick?

Besides taste and flavor, I think the package should be an important consideration.

Special additives can make up the food flavor, but the package never lies. Despite the need for fast speed and convenience, customers always want to eat healthy and fresh food. So how to make those balances, that’s the role of the proper packaging.

Currently, the freshest packages for prepared food are MAP and VSP.

What is MAP?

MAP is short for most atmosphere packaging. After removing the air in the meal case, we will inject some protective gases like CO2 and NO2 to keep food stay longer and fresher.

Food turns bad quickly in air exposure as many microorganisms grow fast in a rich-oxygen environment. Thus, reducing oxygen level is the first also a most crucial step in MAP. Carbon dioxide is very effective in overriding aerobic spoilage microorganisms and reducing the respiration rate of fresh food. While nitrogen is often applied to prevent collapsing of the package. The final choice of gas mixture will depend on the properties of the food

What is VSP?

VSP, abrr. of vacuum skin packing. VSP applies heat and vacuum to cover the product with a tight wrapping film, fitting like a second skin. It removes all air around the food but locks in the fresh moisture there. As an excellent packaging solution, it has been widely applied in various fresh and processed food. It not only helps to prolong shelf time but also promotes its products’ presentation to the fullest.
